The Ukrainian DJ says her decision targets Washington’s policy, not American fans, promoters or the music community.
Nastia’s US shows are off: the Ukrainian DJ has cancelled her upcoming American dates. She announced the decision in a statement on Instagram on Monday, Oct 19. She will also stop accepting bookings there “until the US administration fundamentally changes its policy towards Ukraine,” she writes. She has not named the dates.
Why Nastia’s US shows are cancelled
In the statement, Nastia says recent decisions by the Trump administration “have crossed a line I cannot ignore.” She points to the easing of economic pressure on Russia and to energy deals that, in her words, “benefit the aggressor.” She also cites restrictions on critical military technology used by Ukraine, and pressure on Ukraine while Russia continues its attacks.
“My country is fighting for its existence,” she writes. “I cannot simply continue with business as usual while political decisions are being made that weaken Ukraine’s ability to defend itself.”
Not aimed at American fans
Nastia stresses that the decision is not a statement against the American people, promoters or the music community. “I have enormous respect and gratitude for all of them,” she writes. She adds that many Americans strongly oppose these decisions.
Later in the post, she turns to her own role. “Music has never existed outside politics for me,” she writes. Her statement ends with a single line: “My solidarity with Ukraine is not negotiable.”
German magazine Groove reported the statement on Friday, Oct 23. It is the first press coverage we found. Neither the statement nor Groove names the dates of Nastia’s US shows.
A stand she has taken before
This is not the first time Nastia has drawn a line over the war. In 2022, she refused to share a bill with Nina Kraviz at Awakenings, Groove reports. That year, she also donated 50% of her tour earnings to Ukrainian aid, according to Groove.
Politics on the dancefloor
Her announcement lands in a tense ADE month. Russian DJ Alexander Komarov was pulled from an Interplay Records showcase on the ADE programme, as BEZ reported. Dutch newspaper AD first reported the move on Oct 15, according to Mixmag. It followed a message he sent to a Ukrainian DJ. Samaʼ Abdulhadi has also withdrawn from ADE, citing the booking of artists she says served in the Israeli military.
Leaving one line-up is a one-off decision. Turning down a whole country is a longer commitment. The loss of Nastia’s US shows takes her out of one of the largest touring markets for DJs. She ties a return to a change in government policy, not to a date.
We will update this story if her team confirms the dates of Nastia’s US shows.
