Charlotte de Witte teams up with AI-generated Persian singer NAVA on new EP ‘Azadi’

All three tracks on the KNTXT release feature NAVA, a virtual vocalist whose creator says she stands in for Iranian women who cannot sing in public. The EP is due next month.

Charlotte de Witte’s next release puts an AI-generated singer at its center. The three-track EP “Azadi” is due next month on her label KNTXT. It is a collaboration between Charlotte de Witte and NAVA, a virtual Persian singer, Resident Advisor reports. NAVA sings on every track. RA gives no exact release date, and KNTXT has not announced one.

Charlotte de Witte and NAVA: what we know

De Witte shared the first preview on Tuesday, Oct 20. In an Instagram teaser, she previewed “Tales Of The Desert feat. NAVA.” The clip is an AI-generated video of the two on salt flats, according to RA. It is the only track by Charlotte de Witte and NAVA named so far.

“Azadi” is Persian for “freedom,” RA notes. The title matches the idea behind NAVA. British-Iranian digital artist Farbod Mehr created the avatar in 2025. In March, he told The Guardian that NAVA represents Iranian women who cannot sing in public under Iran’s laws. NAVA has about 775,000 Instagram followers, RA reports.

RA’s Oct 23 story is the first press coverage of the EP that we found. RA says it has asked de Witte for comment. She has not spoken publicly about the project beyond the teaser.

Why an AI vocalist on a techno record matters

De Witte is one of techno’s best-known DJs, and KNTXT is her own label. That gives the choice weight. A record that credits Charlotte de Witte and NAVA side by side is likely to draw two very different readings.

One reading follows Mehr’s framing. In that view, an avatar can carry a voice that the law silences, without putting a real singer at risk. The other reading starts from human vocalists. For them, a computer-generated voice on a headline release may look like one less job for a real singer.

The release also raises practical questions that no source has answered yet. Who gets the vocal credit? How do royalties work for a singer who does not exist? And is any human voice behind NAVA’s sound? We have not seen a full tracklist or any detail on how her voice is made.

What comes next

KNTXT has not confirmed a date, artwork or tracklist. BEZ will update this story when the label announces them, and when de Witte or Mehr comment on the project.
