Claude VonStroke reissues ‘Beware of the Bird’ for its 20th anniversary, with remixes from Kevin Saunderson, Justin Martin and DJ Sneak

The 19-track Deluxe Edition of his 2006 Dirtybird debut is out now, and the full album is on vinyl for the first time through his new label, Wrong Number Records.

Claude VonStroke has released the “Beware of the Bird” Deluxe Edition to mark 20 years of his debut album. The 19-track set came out on Friday, Oct 23, according to its Spotify listing. The album first came out on Dirtybird in 2006, Discogs lists. It pairs the original tracks with new remixes from house and techno names across several generations.

What is on the Beware of the Bird Deluxe Edition

The originals include “Deep Throat,” “The Whistler” and “Who’s Afraid Of Detroit?” The new remixes come from:

  • Justin Martin
  • Kevin Saunderson
  • DJ Sneak
  • DJ Assault
  • Claude VonStroke & Luca Agnelli
  • Paul C
  • Mary Droppinz & Drezza
  • Patrick Chardronnet
  • Alland Byallo
  • Mike Kerrigan

On the “Beware of the Bird” Deluxe Edition, Kevin Saunderson’s name stands out. So does DJ Sneak’s. Both have long club careers. The full list spans several generations of house and techno producers.

First vinyl pressing on Wrong Number Records

The full album was never released on vinyl, VonStroke’s press release says, as quoted by EDM.com. He kept his masters, according to the release. Now he is pressing it on wax for the first time, through his new label, Wrong Number Records. The first full vinyl pressing is available from Oct 23, Hour Detroit reports. He started Wrong Number Records after selling Dirtybird, according to Hour Detroit.

The press release also looks back at how the record was made. VonStroke built it with “bootleg software and a $100 MIDI keyboard,” EDM.com reports.

Why the reissue matters

Twenty years on, “Beware of the Bird” returns in a format it never had. The artist still owns it. Many DJs and producers signed away their early catalogs and now struggle to reissue them on their own terms. VonStroke’s press release links the first pressing directly to the fact that he kept his masters.

The reissue also shows how long a low-budget album can last. A record made with bootleg software and a cheap keyboard now draws remixes from some of the scene’s most established names.

All 19 tracks of the “Beware of the Bird” Deluxe Edition are streaming now on Spotify.
