55X and Gianni Petrarca release first joint single ‘Safe With Me’ on Miami’s Madusa Records

The two Brazilian house DJs, both now based in the US, made the track with vocalist Serenity Haes in Petrarca’s Miami studio.

Brazilian house DJs and producers 55X and Gianni Petrarca released “Safe With Me,” featuring vocalist Serenity Haes, on Oct 20. Miami label Madusa Records put out the single under catalog number MAD00036, according to Beatport. It is the pair’s first collaboration, Mixmag Brasil reports.

The release has two versions: an Extended Mix (5:39) and a Radio Mix (3:52). Stores list it as house at 125 BPM, according to Beatport and Traxsource. It is out now on Spotify and Apple Music.

The pair built the track in Petrarca’s Miami studio, starting from Haes’ vocal, according to Mixmag Brasil. The outlet says 55X had worked with the singer before. It describes a classic house production with subtle nods to the producers’ Brazilian roots.

From Brazil’s club circuit to the US

The two became friends while both still lived in Brazil, Mixmag Brasil reports. Each built a career on the Brazilian circuit before moving to the US.

55X is the project of Cla Pessoa. She has DJed since 2009 and now works from the US, mostly on the West Coast. Her own SoundCloud bio lists shows with Deadmau5, Kaskade and Fatboy Slim. According to Mixmag Brasil, she also spent eight years as a resident at Café de la Musique in Guarujá. The outlet adds shared bills with Kolombo in Brazil and with Claptone, Eli & Fur and Bonobo in the US.

Petrarca lives in Miami. Since 2021, he has hosted the RES+CUE show on Tuesday nights on Revolution 93.5 FM. The station’s page lists past guests such as Alok, Maz and Cat Dealers. According to Mixmag Brasil, the show also airs in Las Vegas. The outlet also cites recent sets at E11EVEN Miami and at M2 during RESISTANCE at Miami Music Week. It adds São Paulo’s D-EDGE and TETTO.

A Brazil-to-Miami record

The single connects two Brazilian artists who now work in different parts of the US. One of them hosts a show on a Miami dance station, and a Miami label released the record. That makes it a small, concrete example of Brazilian house artists building careers in the US. Mixmag Brasil frames it the same way, as a friendship from Brazil’s clubs that carried over to a Miami studio. Madusa also put out “MAR” by PACHE, DOS RIOS and SERGHMARIE, which BEZ covered earlier this month.
