The first product grows out of a LEGO Ideas fan design by a father and son from Luxembourg. LEGO has not announced a price, piece count or release date.
The LEGO Group and Daft Punk announced an official partnership on Oct 22. It covers products, content and brand experiences, according to the LEGO Group press release. The first product will be a Daft Punk LEGO set based on the pyramid stage from Daft Punk’s ALIVE 2007 tour. That design started as a fan submission on LEGO Ideas. The deal gives the Daft Punk brand a major new outlet five years after the duo split in 2021, without any new music.
How the Daft Punk LEGO set began
Patrick Harboun and his son built the original model during lockdown, LEGO says. The release describes them as a father and son from Luxembourg. Their design won the LEGO Ideas “Music to Our Ears” challenge in 2020. Later, it passed 10,000 supporters on the platform. Now it moves into development as an official Daft Punk LEGO set.
“This all started as a creative escape during lockdown between my son and I because of our shared love of Daft Punk and LEGO building,” Harboun said in the release.
However, key details are missing. LEGO has not shared a price, piece count or release date. In fact, the pictured model carries the label “FAN MODEL – NOT FINAL PRODUCT.” The release says only that there is “more to come in 2027,” and Billboard also reports that more details are expected next year.
A film, a teaser and the pyramid at the center
To launch the deal, the two brands released a short film. In it, the duo appear as minifigures and end up at a console built from LEGO bricks. The soundtrack uses “Voyager” from 2001’s Discovery and “Human After All,” the title track of their 2005 album.
Fans got a hint first. On Oct 21, a 30-second teaser with a red 2×4 LEGO brick appeared on “Daft Punk – WDPK 83.7,” according to the release.
Cédric Hervet, Daft Punk’s creative director, explained the choice of the first set. He called the pyramid stage “one of the most recognisable expressions of Daft Punk’s visual world.” So, he said, it “feels fitting” that a fan design will be “centre stage” in the partnership.
For LEGO, this is only the start. Julia Goldin, the LEGO Group’s chief product and marketing officer, called it “just the beginning of a bigger journey.” She also said the companies want to “reimagine the Daft Punk legacy in a fresh and unexpected way.”
What comes next
The release promises more products, events and content across the LEGO brand, but it names none of them yet. Meanwhile, fans can follow the original Daft Punk LEGO fan model on the LEGO Ideas Daft Punk Concert page. We will update this story when LEGO confirms the set’s price and release date.
