The new synth builds on Massive X and adds tools that turn audio files into presets. Native Instruments lists it at $99, down from a regular $199.
Native Instruments has released Massive XL, a software synthesizer that builds on Massive X. The Native Instruments product page lists it at $99, marked down from a regular $199. The page also says Massive XL works with all Massive X presets and Expansions.
What Massive XL adds
The headline feature is the Preset Generator. Native Instruments says it analyzes an audio file you import and turns it into four fully editable presets. A Match and Imagine slider sets how far the results can stray from the original sound. Sonicstate adds that the generator includes stem separation.
Two other tools target faster sound design. According to Native Instruments, the Mutator swaps the filters, oscillators or effects in a preset for types used in other presets in your library. The Randomizer, by contrast, keeps those building blocks and changes only their settings. Also, both let you lock the parts you want to keep.
Sonicstate also lists a Morpher and an Animator. It reports more than 100 wavetables, including the original Massive and classic PPG tables, plus custom wavetables made from samples. The new effects are Raum, Replika Shimmer and Tape Wobble. In addition, the synth supports polyphonic aftertouch and 16 macros.
What Native Instruments says about Massive XL
Tim Adnitt, Senior Director of Product Management at Native Instruments, said, as quoted by Sonicstate: “Massive has always been about giving producers the freedom to create sounds that feel uniquely their own. With Massive XL, we’ve focused on helping users reach those sounds faster. It delivers the character, flexibility, and control Massive is known for while introducing new tools that make exploration, experimentation, and sound creation more immediate.”
Prices, formats and the free Player
Native Instruments’ page lists Massive XL at $99 on sale and $199 regular. It also lists an update for Massive X owners at $49 and a crossgrade for original Massive owners at $79. NI’s announcement, as published by Sonicstate, gives the introductory prices as running from Oct 27 through Dec 31, 2026. The product page itself does not show an end date, so check the store before you buy.
Finally, Massive XL runs as a plug-in on macOS and Windows. A free Massive XL Player has a Demo Mode, and it plays presets without the Mutator or the Preset Generator. Native Instruments also says Massive XL will join its 360 subscription in 2027. For another synth release this month, see our report on the Arturia MiniFreak 49.
