The new top model of the SL-1200 series goes on sale in January 2027 for €1,499 / £1,299. US pricing has not been announced.
Technics has unveiled the SL-1210MKX, a new flagship direct-drive turntable for DJs. The company presented it at Amsterdam Dance Event on Oct 21, according to the Technics/Panasonic press release. It sits above the SL-1210MK7 and goes on sale in January 2027. Technics built it to resist bass feedback and to give finer pitch control.
What is new on the SL-1210MKX
The biggest change is weight. A much heavier, balanced chassis resists outside vibration, Technics says. New isolation feet also aim to block feedback while keeping the deck steady for scratching.
Pitch control changes too. For the first time in the SL-1200 series, there is a dedicated ±4% range. A narrower range gives finer steps, so DJs can match tracks with close BPM values more precisely. At the other end, a new ±50% range opens up much bigger tempo changes for creative mixing and turntablism.
Other features include reverse play, 78 rpm, adjustable start-up torque and brake speed, and a quieter reset switch. The deck also has a polished silver tonearm and a black finish, a nod to the 1979 SL-1200MK2. According to Technics, the “X” stands for “Extreme and Expert.”
Who Technics built it for
Technics names three groups of users. First come headline and touring vinyl DJs, plus club, festival and scratch DJs. Next are clubs and venues with fixed DJ setups. Finally, there are rental and backline companies. The company also says the deck aims to meet the technical riders of major artists.
“The result is a turntable that delivers even greater stability, precision and creative freedom,” said Stefanie Baron, manager of Technics DJ Channel Europe, in the release. She added that Technics worked “closely with professional DJs and sound technicians” on the design.
Price, availability and the 55th anniversary
The SL-1210MKX will reach selected Technics retailers from January 2027. The recommended price is €1,499 or £1,299, according to Panasonic. Technics has not announced US pricing. Its US product page lists the deck as “coming January 2027” with no price.
The launch also marks a milestone. Technics says the SL-1200 series turns 55, since the first model appeared in 1972. After ADE, the company plans further launch events at the Paris Audio Video Show and the Poland Audio Video Show.
